St Vincent’s Health Australia’s public and private hospitals, aged care and research facilities aspire to be pre-eminent providers of health and aged care support in Australia, increasing the number of people they serve, and bringing integrated and innovative models of care to patients and residents.

Established in 1893 by the Sisters of Charity, St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne has been providing vital medical and health care across the Victorian community for more than 125 years.

Founded in 1857 by the Sisters of Charity, St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney is a full service acute public teaching facility that provides significant training and research activities and houses several specialty units that are internationally recognised as centres of excellence.

Private Hospitals

The private hospital sector in Australia continues to operate in a testing environment, but despite the ongoing challenges, St Vincent’s Health Australia’s Private Hospitals Division achieved a string of significant firsts during the year.

Aged care

Over the course of 2018-19, St Vincent’s Care Services grew considerably, transitioning a total of five facilities from other aged care providers. The aged care division also undertook a number of improvements to both existing infrastructure and facilities, and to operational systems, policies and processes.


As one of SVHA’s key pillars, research is supported at all levels and driven by our expert clinicians, scientists and researchers, all focused on improving care for our community.

Our Environment

With the effects of climate change becoming more visible and pronounced, St Vincent’s Health is determined to continue its efforts to reduce emissions by cutting its reliance on fossil fuels and managing its energy use more effectively, while at the same time increasing the organisation’s renewable energy capacity.
